Kyle Cooper: Julia needs helping hands for the lecture. Jeremy will be greeter and Glendon will be moving tables around, getting food, and lining up transportation for Kyle.

Budget: The cost of the Chill Hang was $139.50. The budget will be carried over and handled by the new Treasurer. The Treasurer will also be in charge of checking who has paid what.

Also, a few people helped for Kaleidoscope and it was handled well. We broke even on the costs, so thanks for selling merchandise and being awesome at the event!

Next year, tents for Kaleidoscope would be great. Junior juniors that are concerned  with breakdown of dues, think about where is the money going in the future.

GUEST SPEAKER: There will be 2 guest speakers this semester: Doyald Young on 4.27 and Kyle Cooper on 5.7

GRANTS: We’re unable to receive grants this semester. Please ask John-David if you have any questions about this.

KALEIDESCOPE: It’s important to have a lot of volunteers for this event. Two ideas were brought up on fun things to do besides show our work: Photo Booth where people stand behind a wall with holes cut out and put their faces through, and a silk screen demonstration. Please let Sharon and Joe know if/when you are available to help out.

SENIOR PORTFOLIO DAY: On Saturday, May 9th from 12-4PM. We need Juniors to help direct professionals from the parking lot into the Annex (by the Pyramid Parking Structure), go pick up the food, serve the food, regulate time, greet the professionals on the way in and show them to their seats.

NEW LEADERSHIP POSITIONS: We need to get the ball rolling on anyone who might want to be a candidate for President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Webmaster, Historian, and Lab Tech for next year.

DUES: Juniors are caught up on last semester, but not the seniors. It’s 35.00 a person, so get it to John-David or Everyone needs to catch up for this semester. Amber was stressing that grants should be handled this semester. Payments are Sept, Oct, Nov, Feb, March, April. All the money goes into one pot so each event gets the most funding available at that time. You will be able to earmark to make sure your future event gets the appropriate amount of money. Again, see JD privately if you can’t afford 35.00 a month. Ideas for fundraising: skateboard design auction, zazzle.com, Jeremy knows someone at the UAM to help us, Sarah knows friends at promotions at Springbok that can help. The three people in charge of contacting people, when needed, are Sarah, Jeremy and Amber.

COMING TOGETHER: Contact John-David for anything you need, even school class scheduling. His email is morpheus1382@gmail.com. It’s important that everyone join the VCDA Groupies on Facebook and encourage your classmates.

JUNIOR SHOW RECAP: Jeremy says the biggest thing about Junior Show that helped was they revamped the donation process. No alcohol was great for expediting the process. Jr. Juniors, if you want to have a show, keep all this in mind. One of you should borrow the binder that’s been passed down from each Junior Show’s coordinators from the past. Jeremy has it.

VCDA MEETINGS: We’re going to have two per month on Wednesdays at 6PM. There will be fliers up around campus and emails announcing these meetings on a biweekly basis. If you attend both meetings, you’re invited to a monthly chill session. These hangouts will be at bars, movie theaters, restaurants, whatever. It’ll be a way of rewarding people that participate in the organization while also helping unite the classes. The money to fund these chill sessions is coming from VCDA.

KALEIDESCOPE: We are participating this year. The most important thing is to show off our work. Jeremy has a canopy to use so we don’t get sunburned. We’ll need to come up with a schedule for people to take turns overseeing our booth. We might be able to make some money by helping setup the event. Ideas for this year: wall drawing (chalk). The Kaleidescope committee is Joe, Sharon and Remillia. Everyone is encouraged to come up with ideas and present at the next meeting.

GUEST LECTURE: Julia sent an email to the Juniors and the Jr. Juniors to think about the possible top 3 speakers. In the meeting we narrowed down our decision. First is Kyle Cooper (free). If we can’t get him, then Doyald Young (free). If we can’t get either of them, then it’s Motion Theory (might charge). Our last option would be Maryanne Bantejes (might charge).

AIGA: Pakorn says it’s 75 bucks for a student to join for a year. Professionals pay upwards of 200 bucks. The AIGA portfolio review is May 2nd. Internships and job opportunities are amazing at these types of events. Get involved! Professionals are waiting to see your stuff. If you have any questions, email Pakorn at iampakorn@gmail.com.

This is just an idea, and we would love to hear from you about this (thoughts, concerns, ideas, suggestions) on Wednesday when we meet to discuss.

1) Everyone should have a website.

Even if it’s just a splash page with your contact info — we really want to be able to link out to a space that you can designate as your own on the web from our show website. This is extremely important in representation, and it will reflect somewhat badly if only some of us have sites, while others don’t. If you have questions about this, contact myself (kwinderman[at]gmail[dot]com, or glendon about hosting). 

2) HERE Project Documentation

We’ve already committed to documenting your HERE installation(s) / project(s) for the web, but it would be swell to incorporate this in a printed piece. We’ve mentioned the idea of a printed booklet for each project/student – the better the project(s) and documentation – the better these books will be, which leads us to Number 3:

3) Take-away Promo Booklets

An 8(ish) spread mini portfolio book designed and printed (however is cost efficient) x 200 to be displayed at the show (together with the rest), and subsequently packaged for sale at the show, and as group/self/show promotion. The logistics of this need to be worked out, but we are throwing this out there to see if this is do-able. I think it would be rad, and say a lot about , well, a lot.  We can also swap these with each other, and have a sort of ‘yearbook’-ish project to remember our show, and our program, as well as have something we can sell as a legacy publication in the art store (possibly) but most certainly at our show….

Please be prepared to discuss in class on Wednesday.

Wednesday afternoon (before Mike’s): Seniors meet up to toss around ideas for Senior Show display and general group input for show format(s). Also planning room overhaul, and possibly start to schedule time to clean out 107.

Wednesday eve 6pm is the VCDA meeting, in 107. This is really important as we are to discuss all kinds of important things coming up this semester for Seniors, Juniors, Junior Juniors, and pre-major Applicants.
